Sivakami says, well“It is my privilege to be able to work in such an accomplished hospital.”

Sivakami U M, from Kottukal village in the district of Thiruvananthapuram, comes from an economically challenged family that consists of her mother and younger brother. It was then she happened to know about the skill development courses provided at free of cost by Adani Saksham, a skill development programme launched by Adani Skill Development Centre while attending a mobilization camp organized by ASDC. At the time of counseling, she opted for the course on General Duty Assistant. She had a personal reason to choose the course since she was the one who took care of her bedridden grandmother with whom she shared a special bond.

During the two months of training, she learned

  • How to assist the nurse in nursing procedures
  • Do patient care in a professional manner
  • Aspects to be taken care of while transporting a patient
  • How to handle emergency situations and give first aid

Once the training got over, she was successfully placed at Aster Medcity, one of the finest and largest healthcare centres in South India. In her own words, “It is my privilege to be able to work in such an accomplished hospital. It is more than a dream come true. As a beginner, I get a good exposure, working in such a multi-specialty hospital. I am earning around 12000 rupees per month and thereby able to provide financial assistance to my family.
